sunday

hi.
went to church today. :S

anyway, made fruit cake today in prep of christmas. :D
going to bring some over to scotland. a way to tell whether its going to turn out good is to LICK the mixing bowl. heheh.
mmmm..good taste this one.
i'm doing pretty good considering that i don't have measuring spoons. i have 2 pieces of good equipment - kitchen aid mixer and a good mixing bowl (well..the cheapest one)

anyway i think it will be a good one esp since i bought good sherry. hahha.

i went to kitchener yesterday. i don't have many pictures of the farmer's market because..i don't know who is mennonite and who isn't. hahahah!!! apparently they get offended and stuff. so..o_O
ate apple fritters -
people peeling apples.

anyway, i went to pho dau bo - apparently the most famous beef noodles..i'm guessing in kitchener-waterloo..because it wasn't that good. :P

=$5.45 for a small bowl - so pretty pricey. i took the all in one - y'know, everything beef tripe, tendon, rare beef..etc. BUT they only gave me ONE beef ball. one only wor. :( and the soup was so-so. i was hoping for better since it was a really cold day yesterday. 5/10

anyway che - here is some pictures of NEw City Asian Market. that's fish on the right. unfortunately, no one could help me pick out a nice fish. none of them looked familiar. :( not like i expected to see a friend, hah, but i thought steam fish would be nice. so i asked the counter man, but he didn't speak english. so he kind of brushed me off. :( chinese people ar..can be SO rude! anyway, i went to the supermarket and bought sole fillets instead! :P which i poached using my first julia child's recipe. quite easy and nice - chopped onions, fish (salt and pepper), some butter, and white wine + water.

she said to use a skillet, but i used a pyrex bowl. :) one layer of onions, then fish - put some butter on the fish, then layer with onions. barely cover with wine and water. heat oven up to 350. then you heat up the dish to an almost simmer - then cover with wax paper and pop it into the oven for 8-12 minutes. so quite simple.

i bought kailan and green beans. i made green beans today too. half i'm going to use in an omelette, and half i just salted and peppered with some butter(recipe from julia). apparently she says that you should pre-cook your green beans all the time. boil water+salt, dump in the beans, and bring to a boil again (uncover your pot). that way your beans will be crispy. she's obviously not chinesE! heehee

and so i had some fish and beans with MAMA's tomyam! i don't think julia had that in mind either. mm...MSG is the best thing. i bet she disapproves of that. ;)

no pictures of the food because ...too simple. i mean, nothing lah. biasa. eat only. can't be gourmet all the time. :D

anyway, here's a picture of the building across the asian market - it says hong kong plaza. i guess that's suppose to be china town. :P one building. and its brown. all the buildings here are brown. :( i don't know why. maybe someone has a sense of humour - and thought waterloo....brown.

hah
